Story boards
We use story boards in the classroom to help the students connect with different literary elements in literature. These elements include the setting, the stories characters, and the major sequence of events. Story boards will becoming home once a week and include paper puppets that the students can cut out and decorate at home. Please assist your child in doing this. Listen to them retell the story we read in the class at least two times and ask them about the literary elements we covered.

Individual Book Boxes
In the classroom students have their individual book boxes. Inside the boxes are books and other print that the students can read independently. Students are given the opportunity to read the material inside their boxes during literacy workshops. Activities that are done with the books inside are coloring, word highlighting, buddy reading, using the words from the books to create match-up games and of coarse students will be reading to themselves.
